This workshop will show you how to use active reading strategies to retain information while you read and increase your comprehension. During the workshop, students will also learn how to use the Canvas annotation tools to highlight and make annotations to a text.

To register for a Writing Center Workshop:

2. From the drop-down menu at the top, select “Student Success Workshops”.
3. You will see the name of the workshop on the left side and a white box for the time of the workshop on the schedule.
4. Click on the white box and fill out the form to register for the workshop.

Do you struggle with essay structure and idea organization? Do you feel like your essays lack completion? Then, this workshop is for you! Students will learn not only essay structure, but how to better articulate their ideas in academic writing.

Did you know that understanding the prompt is one of the most important parts of writing an essay? Your instructor gives you a specific question, context, and guidelines, so you can think of understanding the prompt kind of like using GPS. It tells you where to go. Learn how to make sure you are on the right track before you begin the writing process.

How do you compose an effective scholarship essay or personal statement? What information should be included? How can you make yours stand out? Learn how to compose and revise your essay or statement so that you can go “from the stack to the star.” You are encouraged to bring a draft of your scholarship essay or personal statement to the workshop.
